Unregistered crane breaks down on Cohocton road by Bob Clark

COHOCTON For the second time in two months, an equipment operator for Cohocton wind turbine project construction has been ticketed for a vehicle registration violation.

Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies charged Richard M. Dunham, 53, of Rochester, Tuesday morning with operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Deputies said the crane was being driven from one Wind turbine site to another along Pine Hill Road when a track came apart.

According to deputies, a patrol came upon the scene and issued a ticket to Dunham Pine Hill Road was closed on the order of Cohocton highway Superintendent Thomas Simons following the breakdown, deputies said.

This is the second registration-related charge to be filed against an equipment driver on the project. A driver of a Mortenson grader was charged in mid-March with operating without a license plate.

According to John Lamontagne, director of corporate communications for First Wind, formerly UPC Wind, the corporate office was unaware of the charge until notified by The Evening Tribune, and would investigate the issue.
