Cohocton - The company building wind turbines in Steuben County has a new name.
UPC Wind is now known as First Wind.
The company is building a 50-turbine wind farm in Cohocton and Prattsburgh.
So far, 37 towers have been installed.
Taxpayers will see a benefit, according to the company.
Over the next 20 years, First Wind officials say they will pay millions of dollars in payments to the Town of Cohocton, the Wayland-Cohocton Central School District, and the Avoca School District.
Despite opposition from some residents who say the turbines will create noise pollution and pose a threat to animals, a company spokesman says he expects the turbines could be producing electricity by the end of the year.
