NOISE IMPACTS as recorded by Meyer Family from the Fond du Lac County Industrial Wind Project

8/9/08

In March 2008, a wind farm in Fond du Lac County in Wisconsin went on line. The attached document is a log from the Meyer Family recording the noise and health impacts from the turbines surrounding their home (5 turbines) from March 3 to August 5, 2008. There is much pertinent information in this log including communication with their neighbors who lease the turbines. The Meyer Family is willing to discuss their situation with citizens across the US on what they face.

Over the past year, we all have read stories from residents in wind farms that face noise impacts but nothing is as compelling as this noise log by the Meyer Family. There is no doubt that it is critical that every township in Jefferson County with a proposed wind farm take action to see that turbine set backs from residents is properly placed from harmful noise impacts. Physicians and researchers state that turbine sitings should be a mile to a mile and half from a resident’s home to protect them from harmful noise side effects both audible and inaudible.

Turbine setback and noise impact regulations are in the “hands” of each local government council. Here in Jefferson County, the Town of Lyme is the only municipality with a wind ordinance on noise impacts protecting all their residents. The Towns of Cape Vincent, Brownville, Orleans and Clayton must follow their actions and protect their residents too.

Most residents in the Clayton Horse Creek Wind Farm will face 15 to 32 turbines around each of their homes within a mile to a mile and half (or less). Clayton setback is only 1250 ft from a RESIDENT! Town wind ordinances must protect all residents (both leasers and non-leasers). Let us all hope we do not go through what the Meyer Family is going through in WI.
