Larry Rulison Article on Iberdrola & NYS PSC - Glenn R. Schleede email

Mr. Rulison:

Thanks for your article in today's paper on the NYS PSC and Iberdrola's plan to acquire Energy East and it's electricity and gas distribution activities in NY, ME, MA and CT.

However, I'm thoroughly puzzled how you could write a story on the matter WITHOUT acknowledging the fact that Iberdrola could escape millions in federal and NY state income taxes on Energy East's gas and electric distribution operations in the years ahead if Iberdrola is also permitted to own "wind farms" in NY.

Is this omission explained by some of the possible reasons enumerated in the paper below (which was previously provided to you on July 30, 2008)?

It is disappointing if the media join NY political leaders in putting Spain-based Iberdrola's interests ahead of the interests of NY's taxpayers, electric customers, and economy.

I hope that advertising revenue has not influenced your paper's decisions about full coverage of the issue.
