Turbine Health

A GROUP OF ANTI WIND TURBINE ACTIVISTS WANT THE LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO JOIN THEIR FIGHT AGAINST THE WOLFE ISLAND WIND TURBINE PROJECT.

MEMBERS OF "WOLF ISLAND RESIDENTS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT" MADE A PRESENTATION TO THE PUBLIC HEATH BOARD THIS AFTERNOON.

THE GROUP SAYS THE WIND TURBINE PROJECT FAILED TO INCLUDE PUBLIC HEALTH AS A KEY STAKE HOLDER IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW.

GROUP MEMBERS SAY THE NOISE PRODUCED BY 86 WIND TURBINES WILL IMPACT THE HEALTH OF ISLAND RESIDENTS.

STUDIES HAVE SHOWN A WIND TURBINE'S "SWISHING" SOUND CAN GET VERY LOUD.

THE ISLAND GROUP SAYS THE ISSUE NEEDS MORE STUDY

LYNNE MOORE:

"VIBRATIONS, LOW ACOUSTICAL SOUNDS, YOU KNOW THE THUMPING OF BASE GOES RIGHT THROUGH YOUR HOME OR CAR IF YOU HAVE THE MUSIC TOO LOUD, THE KEY ISSUE IS THE NOISE CRITERIA THEY ARE USING TO GIVE A CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL FOR THESE TURBINES."

THE WOLFE ISLAND GROUP WANTS THE HEALTH UNIT TO BACK ITS CALL FOR AN INDEPENDENT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT.
